• Display file question

From RickV@VERT to All on Friday, December 05, 2025 08:24:55
    Hello everybody!

I'm working on creating a display file for the External programs menu. Is it possible to make a display file for a specific users security level?

    Thanks,
    RickV

It's not a built-in feature of "display files", but you could modify
your xtrn_sec.js file (suggest you copy to your "mods" directory
first) to display different files based on the user's security level,
    if you like.

Ok, I see. So I plugged the xtrn_sec.js into ChatGPT and asked it to make me a new xtrn_sec.js so that it will display a ansi file based on security level. Now I can create a specific file (xtrn_sec_50.ans) for my external programs that only that security level can access.

so did that actually work or did it bomb out.

YES!. After about 20 minutes of some back and fourth, it with display my ansi screen for the external programs (xtrn_sec_security level.ans/msg/asc for each level I want. If no display file for a secutity level, it will just display the default one.

So I ended up with a NEW xtrn_sec.js I put in the mods directory, and renamed the orignal in the exec directory, just to save it.

You don't need to rename the original in that case. If a script by the same name exists both in mods and exec, the mods version will always take precdence.

maybe digitalman can scrutinize the code.

That would be nice to hear what he thinks.

A link to the script itself (not a screen shot) would help.

    he put it on pastebin
